Cathedral Demolished

On April 4, 2015, the city’s most unusual cathedral, Cathedral Nephilim, was demolished by its owners to make way for a memorial park.

<photo: This large building is apparently a cathedral of some kind, though of what religious order one can only guess at. Built up several yards above ground the sweeping arches of the doors, the towering spires, and the solid buttresses combined with the extremely over detailed finish of the dark basalt exterior mark this as belonging to someone with a bent to the Gaudian high-gothic. Depictions of angels, demons, sinners and saints are carved into the entire exterior of the building. The large cut granite steps lead up to solid looking doors of dark wood set in a recessed arch. High above the front door is a rose window, though it appears to be a false window as no light shows from inside. A brass plaque is set into the stone next to the main arch door.>

Investment Futures, the corporate landowner, has donated the property to Metro Dade County and is assisting in the landscaping in order to create “Survivor’s Memorial Park,” a memorial to the survivors of the devastating terrorist attack in 2009. The company released the following press statement:

“Investment Futures is dedicated to keeping this city beautiful. We here at Investment Futures feel that while much was done to care for the victims, not enough was done to show thanks for those who survived and helped rejuvenate this city. To that end the park is dedicated to those who survived and thrived despite hardships.”

According to the city planners, the park is scheduled to be open to the public in the next 30 to 45 days.
