Doctrine of Reasonable Effort

Unlike our characters, neither the Judges nor the Players on Miami by Night need to be experts in the fields in which their characters excel in order for them to have a chance for success. It is best if the Player know something of the issues dealt with in order to add to the RP potential, and is necessary that the Judge have some idea so as to be able to set the scene and determine which abilities might apply. However, it is not necessary that either be trained in the Real-Life particulars of their character’s abilities.

The policy of Reasonable Effort shall take into account the spirit our Role- Play. This is defined as follows:

Provided that all Reasonable Effort is taken by the Judges and Players in a given scene, that all necessary skills are possessed by the Characters involved, that all necessary Rolls have been successful, that all Rules have been observed, and that Fairness has been observed in all things both in its Letter and its Spirit; then the scene shall be determined to be successful, regardless of whether there may have been minor oversights on the part of the Players whose Characters are present in the scene.

The effect of this policy is that, should a Character use a Power, Skill, or Ability to enact a particular effort, and succeed in all necessary rolls and   requirements set forth within the rules and overseen by a Judge, then the specific details of that effort will be assumed to have been adequately  performed.

Those who are trained in Real-World knowledges and skills, such as Legal Matters, Disguise, Security, Sleight-of-Hand, or other issues are encouraged to help set a scene in which enjoyable Role-Play may be accomplished. However, those without such Real-World knowledge or training are not required to have such, and may still be successful in their In-Character actions, provided that all Reasonable Effort is made to ensure that the rules are properly followed and that Fairness is observed.
