Basements in South Florida are unusual, due to the fact that in many places, especially along the coast, if you dig down six feet you’ll hit seawater. Florida is mostly porous limestone.

It can be done, however, but requires special construction. Typically only those with Res 4+ will be able to afford to have anything more than an inground pool built underground. The most cost-effective way to do it is to build the land up before digging down, but there are certainly other, more costly ways to handle it.
